COLOR BLOCKING GUIDE with JESIN

COLOR BLOCKING GUIDE with JESIN

The art of color blocking: a guide for creative DIY enthusiasts

In the world of design, there is one technique that has proven to be timeless yet modern: color blocking. This bold method of combining and contrasting colors has grown in popularity in recent years, and for good reason. Let's take a look at what color blocking is, how it works and why it should be an essential part of any DIY repertoire.

What is color blocking?

Color blocking is a design method in which colors are combined in clear, delineated areas to create a striking visual effect. Instead of mixing or blurring colors, they are placed next to each other in large, solid areas, creating a high-contrast and often graphic look.

How does color blocking work?

To use color blocking successfully, it is important to find a certain balance between the colors. This means choosing contrasting color combinations that stand out from each other but still harmonize. A simple way to do this is to use the color wheel as a guide: Colors that are opposite each other create a strong contrast, while those that are next to each other have a more harmonious effect. Often, however, individual shades of a main color, such as blue, are very exciting and pleasing to the eye.

Rules for color blocking?

Although there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to color blocking, there are a few guidelines that can help you get the most out of this technique. For example, you should be careful not to use too many colors at once to avoid overloading. Instead, focus on two or three main colors that harmonize well with each other. In addition, it is important to consider the proportions and make sure that the color blocks are in a pleasant relationship to each other.

Tips and tricks for successful color blocking

- Experiment with different color combinations to find out which ones work best for your project.
- Remember that not only the colors themselves are important, but also the arrangement of the color blocks. Play with different shapes and layouts to create interesting visual effects. Often, however, shapes or blocks are already predetermined, as is the case with my candle holders, for example. Here, the shape of the mold tells me where to arrange the individual color blocks.
- Consider the context of your project. The same colors can look different in different settings, so it's important to consider the overall effect.

What do I need to consider when color blocking with JESIN?

Color blocking is child's play with JESIN, but there are a few important rules to bear in mind. Timing is important here. Once you have mixed your JESIN, added the paint and poured your first color, you should definitely wait until it has dried and NOT immediately pour the next color on top. When color blocking, you want to have clear, separate blocks of color that do not mix together. Therefore, I advise you to wait at least 10-15 minutes before putting the next color on top or next to it. However, do not wait longer than 2-3 hours in between, as this can mean that the JESIN blocks do not stick together forever and can separate / break after a certain time.

Which color combinations can I recommend at the beginning?

The color selection of LIQU-MENTs is large - but not huge. But if you realize that one color, let's take NEON ORANGE, can create soooo many different shades. If you use less color in relation to the YES it becomes a very pastel tone, if you use a lot of color (but not more than 5% in relation to the YES) it becomes stronger. So you can create over 10 different shades with a single color, which you can also use in combination as color blocking colors.
We currently have 10 colors of LIQU-MENTs with 10 different color intensities each in JESIN, which means you already have 100 colors to choose from. And if you now consider that you can also mix all of the 10 colors together - in other words, you can create your own personal shade - the possibilities are endless!
But to make sure you're not completely overwhelmed by the 1,000 possibilities, here are my top 10 color blocking combinations with the LIQU-MENTs:

Why is color blocking becoming more and more popular?

One of the main reasons for the increasing popularity of color blocking is its versatility. This technique can be applied to everything from clothing and home decor to art and graphic design. In addition, color blocking allows you to easily create a strong visual impact, which is especially important in a world full of visual stimuli.
In addition, color blocking offers a way to express yourself creatively and show personality. By choosing bold color combinations and arranging them in unexpected ways, you can create unique and individual designs that stand out from the crowd.
Overall, color blocking offers an exciting way to play with color and tell visual stories. Whether you're a DIY enthusiast looking for new projects or a designer looking for fresh ideas, color blocking is definitely a technique worth exploring.

Enjoy pouring with JESIN and designing your own color blocking combinations !
